Brand new laptop , plugged in, charging

"i just bought this brand new Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5509 form best buy for $329.99
and for some reason its not charging. before i used it i put it on charge and the light indicated that it was charging
so i left it charging for like an hour , then i started it up , the laptop battery icon says ( plugged in , charging 0%)

its so crazy , it won't even go up to 1%

so i shut it down to let it charge for more 2 hours, then i turned it on and its still 0% !!!!
when i unplug it it immediately shuts down

any thoughts here ? i just bought the laptop today "
Answer:"Before returning your new Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5509 to Bestbuy or spending money on a new battery or charger, try following simple fixes to see if the problem goes away.

Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5509 laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the laptop. This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your laptop on.

If the problem persists, did you check if it could be your Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5509 laptop power cord or power source problem? Defective or insufficient toshiba power supply might cause error messages that are misleading. Take the battery out and power on your laptop with the charger only. Make sure your laptop power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. Did you notice the power jack loose? You can find laptop power jack on ebay. Fixing and soldering the power jack requires professional skill though. Also the charger green/blue LED should be on. If not, replace the defective charger. Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5509 laptop battery charger has its own lifespan and does not last forever, consider buying a lifetime warranty charger online from company like laptopadaptercharger.com.au

Dell laptop doesn't recognize the ac adaptor

"Basically when I plug it in I get a nice popup telling me that it couldn't detect that its a Dell power supply so it won't charge the battery and underclocks the system. It still works for other purposes (that is, giving power)
I thought it was the actual power supply cable so I bought a new one, that worked for a while, provided I inserted it at JUST THE RIGHT angle. But now that's not working anymore, so I assume its the part which connects to the computer.
The battery charging I can live without, the underclocking I can't. I'd like a way around this issue. Things I've tried:
Updating the BIOS
Replacing the power supply cable
Inserting it at different angles
Turning it off and on again
Swearing at it
Twisting it while inserting it
So, is there a workaround somehow? I'd like to avoid taking out my soldering kit and risking permanently damaging expensive equipment if that's allright. I'm hoping for a software solution.
Added: The exact model is a Del Inspirion N5010"
Answer:" I suppose that there would be a few models that DO have more than two wires going down the ac cable; however if you follow my trouble shooting guide your problem will be solved.
1: Check battery
2: Check AD adapter
3: Check DC power jack to motherboard connector/wire/ whatever it is
if it is not one of those three things then you have faulty circuitry on the motherboard that can be repaired by someone with experience - not by the folks at Best Buy - not likely at any local computer repair shop either... you need a tech that has advanced skills (and tools) <br />
if your problem is the Dell DA130PE1-00 ac adapter because Dell has a build in mechanism to make sure the adapter is Dell before allowing it to charge the battery. However, even if the adapter is Dell, if the identifier chip inside the adapter is broken, the laptop would refuse to recognize the Dell XPS 15 L502x adapter and stop charging. It seems that your laptop was starting to have the problem when it shows you the message that ac adapter cannot be recognized.
You can follow this Dell's troubleshooting guide to try to get the laptop to recognize the charger. It might not work for your laptop because it is a bit outdated.
http://ftp1.us.dell.com/diags/R66243.htm

If the troubleshooting does not work, most likely, you will have to buy a new adapter for Dell XPS 15 L502x since the laptop cannot identify the charger as Dell anymore. However, before you buy a new charger, borrow someone else's charger to make sure it will charge the laptop and that is the problem for sure. I wouldn't want you to waste money on a part that is not necessary."

Lenovo Laptop AC Adapter Not Charging

"Question:I have a Lenovo G Series (i think g series) laptop and when i plug the charger in, it doesnt do anything. It doesnt show the little sign that says its charging, nothing!"
Answer:"1. Disconnect the laptop Ac power supply.
2. Shut down the computer.
3. Remove the battery
4. Connect the A/C power supply
5. Start the computer.
6. Under Battery... (here's the problem, -where is "battery?" I searched, and finally remembered it is under Control Panel, then System, then Device Driver, then Battery)
7. Click on Battery (at the top), and then right click on all entries that say Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery, and select uninstall.
8. Shut the computer down.
9. Disconnect the lenovo laptop power supply.
10. Insert the battery.
11. Insert the A/C power supply.
12. Start the computer.
13. It should be fixed"
if the lenovo laptop ac adapter also not work, I would highly suggest you look into getting a new one as soon as possible. According to your question, the Lenovo 40Y7696 charger states that its charger but its not. This just means the charger light is working properly, its just not charging properly. Look into getting a new charger as soon as possible. Make sure you get one from a reliable source instead of a cheap knock off on like ebay or something. I would personally suggest you visit laptopadaptercharger.com.au. They are very reputable and have great service. They include 60 days money back guarantee, and 1-year warranty so if the Lenovo 40Y7659 adapter ever stops working, they would replace it at no additional cost, for life.

laptop AC adapter not recognized

Every time I turn on my Dell Inspiron 15R laptop, I get the following message:
"The AC adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available. Please connect a Dell 130W AC adapter or greater for the best system performance."
I don't know why I am getting this message since:
- I am using the 130W Dell AC adapter that came with the laptop
- The adapter is charging the battery properly
- The green light on the Dell DA130PE1-00 adapter stays on all the time when in use
- The port connection is fine
So, other than this annoying error message, everything seems to be working fine.
Solution:
Please share the exact error message that you are getting from the system. Please check if the charging port on the laptop is loose. Connect an alternate laptop power ac adapter to see if that works fine with the system.
Do you see light on Dell AC Adapter? If yes, please follow the below steps:
Please check the status of the AC Adapter in BIOS:
Restart the system and keep tapping 'F2' as soon as the Dell logo appears.
Under 'System', go to 'Device Info'.
Check the status of Dell Xps L702X Adapter.
Note: Use arrow keys to navigate in BIOS.

Also, check the battery health in BIOS:
Go to 'System' and go to 'Battery Info' and also check 'Battery Health'.

Also, boot the system in Windows and place the cursor on the battery icon on the right bottom corner of the system and it will show either of the messages:
Plugged in, charging.
Plugged in, not charging.
If you are getting 'Plugged in, not charging' message, I will recommend you to update the BIOS:
Please find the link for BIOS update: http://dell.to/SEKdFG
Note: The Dell XPS 15 L502x ac adapter should be connected and the battery should be at least 10% charged. Please disconnect all the external devices connected to the system before updating the BIOS. Please save all the unsaved data as your system will restart automatically while updating the BIOS.
Click on the above link.
Click on 'Download Now'.
Select "Single-file Download" and click on "Continue".
Click on "Run" and follow the on screen instructions.

Keep me updated. Please reply for any further questions.

Laptop Charger Beeping

"a few months ago my AC adapter stopped powering my inspiron 8500. It has a green light on it and that light stopped coming on, and I could hear a faint beeping coming from it (meaning that power was getting to the adapter but it was not doing what it was supposed to). So, I ordered a new part, and it got here and after 3 days of use, it started doing the same thing. I am assuming that these are broken, but if anyone can tell me otherwise I`d be really happy. I looked over some of this forum and the laptop ac power Adapter outputs the same amperage as the computer requires (at least on the new one that broke in three days). I thought this might be a common problem or something but maybe I`m just unlucky."
Answer:"Some switching/regulated power supplies seem to have a hum or a whine moreso than others. (I've a Dell laptop supply that hums.)
You should try putting different loads on it. When the laptop is on, backlight at full, charging the battery, etc, the power supply will be under more load than when the laptop is powered off and the battery is full (or not present). Under the light load, the supply may hum more loudly or not at all.
My experience has been that if the laptop power supply hums or makes noise when under load, it's probably an indication of impending failure. If it hums when under light or no load, it may simply be that it's making the noise as the switching circuit engages less often. (The Dell supply I mentioned hums under light/no load, and has been fine for years.)
A switching power supply essentially turns on and off at a high speed, and it is this cycling that can cause an audible sound.
Try the following:
Try a different wall socket. There might be a problem with mains power causing it.
Measure the output using a voltmeter to see if it's within tolerance of the stated specifications.
If it's a high-pitched whine or hum, it might be just fine. If it's more of a hiss or sparking sound, you might have bad components that are arcing internally, etc.
Most power supplies like this are very difficult to open up to inspect; not recommended unless you know what you're doing and don't mind voiding any warranty. It's probably best and safest to procure a replacement supply before doing any damage to yourself or your computer."
"Solutions for Laptop Charger Beeping
Now that you know the possible reasons for the laptop battery not charging and the charger beeping, you also need to be aware about the solutions for the same. First of all, understand the fact that there are not too many things that you can do, when you come up with this problem. The only option that you are left with is of buying a brand new charger of the same brand. If there is no problem with the electricity circuit or the power supply, the only thing that you can do is to throw away the existing charger for a brand new one. There is another thing that you can do, if your laptop charger starts beeping within the warranty period. In such cases, you can contact the dealer from where you bought the laptop. You can also directly contact the customer care cell manufacturer and demand for battery charger replacement! These are the two best solutions that you can opt for.

A laptop battery charger is quite inexpensive as compared to the laptops and hence, rather than taking chances with life and performance of your laptop, it is always better to buy a new charger!

Hp laptop charger is hot

"Im a 16 year old boy and my laptop charger is very hot. one day i was in my room and i saw that my laptop was no longer charging so i went to touch the charger and it was so hot i was almost burned so i let it cool down in a cool place my living room and it start working again but now its always hot and its making a buzzing noise is this safe for my laptop its only the middle part thats hot. not the tip of it are anything."

Solution:
"Many of HP's laptop power supplies get very hot when in use. I've never had a problem with mine, per se, but my girlfriend and her brother both have the same laptop, and theirs get as hot as mine. Her brother's stopped working one day, and I took it to my shop. It provided 18.5 (actually 18.87) volts perfectly fine under no load, but when plugged into the laptop, it would get hot and after about 5m, stop providing voltage. After getting inside (NOT an easy task) the problem appeared to be a group of solder joints that had, due to heat expansion and contraction, lost all but partial contact with the circuit. When the charger would get hot, the board would flex and the circuit would break. I haven't gotten around to it yet, but I should be able to fix the problem by resoldering the offending joints."

"It's unclear to me what exactly is hot. But anyhow, whether it is an "internal" (laptop) component that gets overheated or an external thing, you should go with your laptop and laptop power adaptor to get it serviced. You don't want to risk fire because of that. Especially if you smell that hot thing and feel funny odors. It could be a bad contact with the power line (bad dangerous plug in the wall), it could be a bad wire (that again dangerous as it could spark). You must get your pc checked by a specialist. Really."

"Get a new one, or if you have some technical know how you can unscrew the middle part and see what really wrong. Something has probably melted. I have two batteries and both of them I took to Britain and since then I noticed the hotness cause I just replaced the front wire with a british one. So ya Repleace it, try toget it fixed or fix it yourself. I can be dangerous."

How to test Your HP Laptop Battery

You can test your HP laptop battery If you suspect this is a problem. Laptop battery fails, a couple of years. They may fail earlier or last longer, depending on the quality of the battery and computational behavior. HP laptop batteries are no different. So how can you know if your laptop battery is dying? This is what you need to know in advance, so you can order a replacement. Fortunately, there are a few simple ways to test your HP laptop battery, and arrange for replacement, if necessary.
Use HP Battery Check to test your HP laptop battery
If you have a Windows 7 computer, it comes with a utility to help you test your HP laptop. HP has a built-in utility called Battery check your battery, to determine whether it is still able to hold a charge, and can perform well, run diagnostics. Test your HP 482962-001 laptop battery, plug in the adapter and make sure the computer charge as much as possible. If the battery is too weak, the test will not run properly. Once charged, proceed the following steps:
Go to "Start"> "HP Support Assistant.
Select the "Troubleshooting", then the power, thermal and mechanical.
Click Battery Check

The laptop battery above is indicated to be healthy and does not need to be replaced.
The laptop battery above has failed and needs to be replaced immediately.
If the battery for your laptop is bad, you will receive a warranty ID number. Use this number to see if your elitebook 8440p battery is still under factory warranty. If it is, submit the request for a replacement immediately.
If the battery is out of warranty, the screen will display that it is no longer covered.
Symptom Of A Dying Laptop Battery
One of the primary symptoms of a dying probook 4520s battery is a battery that loses its charge quickly. Under normal circumstances, your laptop battery charge should last several hours. If it dies within less than an hour after unplugging it with a full charge, then the battery’s cells are getting weak and the battery should be replaced.
Simple Guidelines when Repairing Battery Packs

Only connect cells that are matched and have the identical state-of-charge. Do not connect cells of different chemistry, age or capacity.

Never charge or discharge Li-ion hp hstnn-q78c batteries without a working protection circuit unattended. Each cell must be monitored individually.

Include a temperature sensor that disrupts the current on high heat.

Apply a slow charge only if the cells have different state-of-charge.

Pay special attention when using an unknown brand of cells. Some may not contain a high level of intrinsic safety features.

Li-ion is sensitive to reverse polarization. Observe correct polarity.

Do not charge a Li-ion battery that exhibits physical damage or has dwelled at a voltage of less than 1.5V/cell.

When repairing Li-ion, assure that each cell is connected to a protection circuit.

How to Charge the Li-ion ASUS C23-UX21, ZENBOOK UX21 UX21E 35Wh Battery?

Claims of fast charging a Li-ion ASUS C23-UX21 Battery in one hour or less usually results in lower charge levels. Such a charger simply eliminates stage two and goes directly into 'ready' once the voltage threshold is reached at the end of stage one. The charge level at this point is about 70%. The topping charge typically takes twice as long as the initial charge.
Depending on the charger and the self discharge of the ASUS C23-UX21, ZENBOOK UX21 UX21E 35Wh Battery, a topping charge may be implemented once every 500 hours or 20 days. Typically, the charge kicks in when the open terminal voltage drops to 4.05 volts per cell and turns off when it reaches 4.20V/cell.
No trickle charge is applied because the Li-ion laptop batteries for ASUS C23-UX21, ZENBOOK UX21 UX21E 35Wh laptop is unable to absorb overcharge. Trickle charge could cause plating of metallic lithium, a condition that makes the cell unstable. Instead, a brief topping charge is applied to compensate for the small amount of self-discharge the ASUS C23-UX21, ZENBOOK UX21 UX21E 35Wh Battery and its protective circuit consume.

Remove and Replace the HP Elitebook 8460P Battery

Laptop batteries don't last forever, unfortunately. Over time and with usage, batteries wear out and need to be replaced. This can happen anywhere between one and four years, depending on how often you use your laptop and what you use it for. Fortunately, replacement batteries for HP laptops are readily available and are not hard to replace.
The HP EliteBook 8460p laptop computer features both hp AC and battery power. As long as the laptop's AC power is plugged in, it will function. This is true even when the battery is not in place. However, if you remove the AC power when the battery also is removed, the computer will immediately lose power. Because you can charge the laptop battery without needing to remove it, there generally speaking are few reasons to remove the HP ProBook 6560b battery unless you are replacing it
Instructions
1 Position the laptop so that you can access the back side. Close the lid and flip the unit upside-down, or leave it open and turn the notebook on its side. Make sure the computer is plugged in. Otherwise it will turn off and you will lose your work when you remove the battery.
2 Press the release tab or tabs next to the hp elitebook 8460p battery, which you can typically find near the back or middle of the laptop. Most batteries are rectangular. Note that some notebooks, most notably the Apple MacBook Pro, do not have user-removable batteries.

3.Turn your laptop upside-down, so you are looking at the underside of the laptop. Locate the elitebook 8460p battery. The size and location will vary depending on the model of the laptop, but it is generally a large, square or rectangular area with one or two latches that lock it in.
4 Unlock the switches and slide the HP CC09 battery out.
5 Place the new battery in the same way you pulled the old one out, and secure the latches.
Tips & Warnings
The laptop will turn off and you will lose your work if you unplug it by accident with no battery installed.

Dell Vostro 3500 is not detecting the battery

"Dell Vostro 3500 battery is not recognized by the laptop and is not charging"
Here are few things to try:
1.Check if the battery works in another laptop.
2.Clean the battery contacts if you’re comfortable with it. Also check if it’s damaged or bent.
3.Try another battery. If this vostro 3500 battery works, then you know for sure that the other dell vostro 3500 laptop battery is faulty. If the system is under warranty you can get battery replacement from Dell.
4.Seems like flashing BIOS has helped a great deal of people facing similar problem. Here is a Knowledge Base article from Dell that has solutions for battery problems. Follow the instruction to get BIOS update.
Hi there, since you tried a "known good" laptop battery (exactly the same as your original one I hope and known to work already in another machine) and the system still didn't recognize it, there really isn't any point in troubleshooting the battery.
If you are able to use your portable on dell AC power adapter without problem, then you can rule out the system itself as being at fault.
Try booting the system into the System Setup (BIOS) and check to ensure that the battery is seen in there. Turn off the system, then turn it back on and tap on the F2 key a couple of times when you see the Dell Splash screen. When you get in there, take a look in the list for battery or power options. See if the battery is being detected by your system.
If it isn't, then that indicates that there may be a fault in the connectors where the Dell 7FJ92 battery plugs into the system. You may need to have your motherboard replaced.
If your system is under warranty, Dell will replace it for free. If not, they will still troubleshoot with you to determine exactly what is faulty or causing the issue, and will point you in the right direction to get it fixed.
Just to check, the new battery is the same kind right as the original one right? If not, you may be getting a false failure as not all batteries work in all systems. "

Battery life for Asus laptop

In order to really answer more accurately, you should give the model number of your laptop. However, the "newer models" will usually have a lithium ion type battery. Depending on the type of use (whether you are using your cd often, or if you are using a wireless card, etc.) a new battery should run about 2 hours. The newer "web books" can often go up to 3 hours or more, but these units using won't have a CD or floppy.
If you have a lithium ion, they do not have to be plugged in all the time. The older nickel-cadmium and nickel-metal batteries did need to be used to about 3-5% of the remaining "battery life", and then fully recharged. Only recharging one of these laptop batteries partially will develop a short life span of the replacement laptop battery as it not fully recharge. The nickel-cadium batteries if not used and recharged fairly often, the electrolytes sink to the bottom of the battery. As a result, recharging the battery after an extended storage period would be needed.
The battery for asus a32-k52 that comes with your laptop is more than likely going to stay with it for the rest of the laptop’s life. Most batteries last about three to five years, which at that point many people just want to replace the laptop. So, they will just deal with how the battery acts, until the new computer arrives. This means that keeping your current battery in good condition is crucial. The sad fact is that capacity of the battery will suffer from decreased performance as time goes on. You can’t stop it from happening, but here are some things you can do to slow it down.
Do not try to cycle the Asus K52F battery all the way down. This used to be an issue with past asus a32-n82 laptop battery types. Those needed to be used until they were almost dead before recharging. However, the new lithium ion batteries that most electronics have do not ‘like’ to be discharged fully. A fully discharge increases stress in the battery and actually lowers the number of times the battery can be used.
Stay out of extreme temperatures. Batteries are best used at a place where the temperature does not change frequently. This does not mean you cannot take your laptop to class during the winter or summer months. Leaving it in a hot car or leaving it in the direct sunlight, can hurt the life of a battery. This especially applies when charging a battery.
If the battery will not be used for weeks, store it. Many battery manufactures suggest using the asus laptop battery until it is around 40% remaining and then storing it in a cool dry place. This will help to keep the battery from draining too much when not in use. Storing a fully charged battery for long periods of time is not suggested. Taking a fully charged extra on the road with you is good, but leaving it on your computer desk for two months is probably not.

Dell Laptop battery plugged in, not charging

"Dell Inspiron 1570 Laptop. Windows Vista basic.
I got a new charger for it and when I hover over the inspiron 1570 battery icon in the toolbar it says: 0% Available (plugged in, not charging)
Seeing as it's charged 0% whenever it gets unplugged it automatically shuts down. Which is very annoying. "
Solution:
"For about 6 months I’ve been getting the infamous “dell inspiron 1570 battery plugged in / not charging” icon in the system tray.
I also get a dell power supply not recognised message when I look in the BIOS page.
Battery health supposedly OK.
Sometimes it would charge, sometimes it wouldn't
Things to try:
Tapping the Dell icon
Blowing into the adapter socket
Wriggling the power cable and twisting it to maintain some pressure on the jack.
Flicking between power plan options (balanced, high performance etc)
Removing and replacing the battery with the power on
Swapping the adapter
Replacing the power jack board
Slightly bending the centre pin of the power jack to ensure contact
Using the suspicious replacement dell laptop ac adapter on another Dell laptop
Flashing the bios to v A17 (via USB key and /forceit command)
Uninstalling the “ACPI-compliant control battery method” and then reinstalling.
I did everything on this list except update the BIOS and prelacing the power jack board. I couldn't update the bios because my battery for dell inspiron 1570 was less than 10%, and the bios would only install on windows, not DOS. I tried booting to windows 98 CD, but that didn't work either. That program will only run on Windows, so the /foreceit command is a no-go. Also, I looked at the bios version I had and read the version updates to the succeeding versions and I didn't see any power modifications, so I figured that wouldn't work. Also, since my laptop was going in and out, I figured it was an open rather than a software issue.
I was right! I took a few hours the other day and opened up the laptop and found the faulty connection at the signal wire connection to the AC jack.
so in two hours I had a working laptop again, which is good because Fry's was going to charge me 160 bucks to fix it. Thats 80 bucks and hour, because it only took me two hours to fix

Compaq Presario CQ60 Charging Problem

Question:"Compaq Presario CQ60 Charging Problem?
So, a while back my mom's laptop stopped charging and even today will not charge. It is a decent laptop that functions fine that I wouldn't mind having around as another computer at my disposal. It is a Compaq Presario CQ60 Laptop by HP. I don't have any cash I can put into fixing it and the laptop battery is dead, but we have the compaq battery charger and everything it needs to function. I was just wondering if anybody knew of an easy, reliable way to get it to charge without getting work done on it.
Additional Details
The battery is fine, but it will not charge. The light that shows that it is charging is not on and I dont know how to fix it."
Answer:"Try remove the battery and compaq presario cq60 ac adapter/power cord from your Compaq Presario CQ60 laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the laptop. This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your laptop on.
If the problem remain, check if its your laptop power cord or power source problem. Insufficient power might cause error messages that are misleading. Take the battery out and power on your Compaq Presario CQ60 laptop with the presario cq60 charger only. Make sure your laptop power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. Did you notice the power jack loose? You can find laptop power jack on ebay. Fixing and soldering the power jack requires professional skill though. Also the compaq presario cq62 charger green/blue LED should be constantly on without blinking. If not, replace the defective charger. laptop charger does not last forever, consider buying a lifetime warranty charger online from company like batterywood.com "

Dell XPS 15 battery or charger issue?

Question:”I think my Dell XPS 15 have a problem in it’s battery. What happens before was whenever I use it for 15mins the battery meter shows not charging. When I unplug and re-plug the adapter it shows battery charging on the dell xps 15 laptop battery meter but for just few seconds.
Right now I think my problem just got worse. It doesn’t even take 15mins for my laptop to be on that non charging stage. The blue light quickly turns off when I try to connect it to the laptop…
I know that Ill be replacing either my batter or dell laptop AC adapter. I just want to make sure which should I replace”
Answer:”Laptop battery problems are quite common among owners of all brands of notebooks. On average, laptop batteries last one to three years. Their exact lifespan depends on several factors, such as how much you use the batteries, the number of charge-discharge cycles and the quality of the batteries. Lithium-ion batteries begin to lose the ability to hold a charge over time. Before you replace a laptop battery, consider that there may be other reasons that the laptop is not working properly. You may be able to recharge the battery instead.
Instructions
1.Determine if the laptop battery is defective. While less than 1 percent of batteries are defective, the possibility is still there. If the battery is new and only charges some of the way, it may just require a BIOS update to charge fully. New batteries that refuse to charge at all may be defective. Purchase a new laptop battery to replace the defective one.
2.Test the laptop power adapter to see if it’s faulty. Run the laptop directly from the laptop power adapter and without the battery. If the laptop does not work with the adapter plugged in, the adapter is dead and you will need to replace it. The dell xps 15 battery may refuse to charge if the adapter is faulty. Charge the battery with the laptop turned off.
3.Insert the xps l502x battery into another laptop to test it. If the dell laptop battery charges in another laptop, the laptop’s motherboard may be bad. Replacing a motherboard in a computer can be very expensive. If the cost to fix the computer is not worth the cost of replacing the motherboard, consider purchasing a new laptop.
4.Reinstall the battery for dell xps l702x to ensure all connectors latch properly. The latch mechanism that holds the laptop battery should click into place. If the latch does not close, remove the battery and examine the compartment for signs of damage.
5.Troubleshoot the BIOS to determine if there is a hardware problem. Turn on the laptop and immediately enter BIOS setup by holding down the “Del” and “F1″ or “F2″ keys, depending on the make and model of the laptop. When the BIOS screen appears, see how long it takes for the battery to charge down. If the battery does not last as long as the BIOS setup, a hardware failure may be the problem.”

How to Choose Laptop AC Adapter for Your Laptop

laptop-battery-store.ca
Whether you need a replacement dell laptop power adapter for your laptop because the original was damaged or lost, choosing a new one isn't that hard--in fact, you don't even have to reference the old power adapter when selecting a new one. Choosing a new laptop adapter is simply about compatibility. And finding your laptop a new partner is all about making sure that their power rating matches.
Instructions
1 Check the laptop's model number. Use the search engine on a compaq presario cq61 charger vendor's website to search for a compatible power adapter by your laptop's model number (see Resources).
2 Locate the power specifications of your laptop--usually printed on the bottom or near the laptop's power port. Locate the amperage (AMPs) and voltage (V) rating of your laptop on the power specifications list.
3 Match your laptop's power rating with that of the aftermarket Dell XPS 15 L502 adapter. The voltage of the power adapter must match the voltage of the aftermarket adapter. The amp rating of the aftermarket adapter must meet or exceed the requirements of your laptop.
4 Select a power adapter for compaq presario cq61 tip from the aftermarket power adapter's kit. This fits firmly into your laptop's power port. The selected tip should not fit too loosely or need excessive force to fit the laptop's power port.
Tips & Warnings
If you have to pay the extra money for a universal kit as opposed to a replacement hp probook 4330s adapter, try selecting one with extras--like car adapters and European plug-ins. The cost may be a little more for the extras, but having to pay for two separate adapter kits as opposed to a bundled kit can be more expensive in the long run.
The power rating of your laptop and your adapter is the most important factor--they must be compatible. Selecting a power adapter solely on the basis of its fitting your laptop can lead to damage of both the laptop and the adapter.

My Dell Laptop Battery Won't Charge

When Dell laptop batteries won't charge, the most common culprits are a damaged power cord or a battery that needs to be replaced. The power cord provides power to the laptop and charges the battery, so if it's not working it will not charge the battery. Dell laptop batteries only have a life expectancy of 12 to 24 months, after which the battery loses efficiency or the ability to charge. When this happens, the battery needs to be replaced. Simple troubleshooting can pinpoint the cause of the problem.
1 Remove the Dell laptop battery. Ensure the laptop power is turned off and the laptop is unplugged from all additional power sources. Slide the battery release mechanism on the bottom of the Dell laptop while lifting the battery out of the battery bay at the same time.
2 Check the Dell 127VC battery for damage. Dents, dings, corrosion and mangled battery contacts can all cause the battery to work or charge improperly and can lead to laptop fires and internal damage. Damaged Dell batteries must be replaced.
3 Plug the dell power adapter into the Dell laptop outlet and an electrical outlet. Power the laptop on. Should the laptop fail to power on, the power adapter is incorrectly working and should be replaced. A laptop powered by the adapter indicates the power adapter is properly working. Power off the laptop and unplug the power adapter from the laptop.
4 Put the Dell battery back into the dell inspiron 14z laptop battery bay by pressing it into place. Re-insert the power adapter for eight hours so the battery charges.
5 Remove the power adapter. Power on the Dell laptop. Should the laptop fail to power on, the battery did not charge and should be replaced.

Toshiba Laptop Won't Charge With the Laptop Adapter

A power cord, or AC adapter, charges a Toshiba laptop battery and powers the laptop. If the battery is not charging while the laptop is plugged into the AC adapter, it is likely that you need to replace either the toshiba laptop ac adapter or the battery. You can easily test both to determine which is the cause of the problems. Once you have identified the cause, you need to replace the faulty part.
1.Power down the Toshiba laptop. Remove the charger for Toshiba PA3468E-1ACA and any other power sources.
2.Slide the battery release mechanism, located on the bottom of a Toshiba laptop, to the right. Continue holding the release mechanism in place while sliding the battery out of the battery bay.
3.Install the AC adapter into the outlet on the right side of the Toshiba laptop. Plug the PA3516C-1AC3 adapter into an electrical outlet that is working. Power on the laptop. This process troubleshoots the Toshiba PA3467E-1AC3 adapter. If the laptop turns on, the AC adapter is properly functioning. If it does not, replace the AC adapter. Once replaced, the new AC adapter should charge the battery. If it does not, continue troubleshooting the battery.
4.Turn the Toshiba laptop off. Remove the AC adapter.
5.Clean the Toshiba battery contacts by dipping a cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol. Rub the cotton swab on the battery and battery bay contacts to remove dust and buildup. While cleaning the contacts, inspect them. If you note corrosion, dings or dents on the battery, replace the battery. Do not use a damaged battery in a laptop as it can cause damage or start a fire.
6.Line up the Toshiba battery contacts with the laptop battery bay contacts. Push the battery downward until it snaps and locks into place.
7.Insert the AC adapter. Charge the battery for eight hours. During this time, do not turn on the laptop or remove the AC adapter.
8.Remove the AC adapter. Turn the Toshiba laptop on. Replace the battery with a Replacement Toshiba battery if the laptop does not turn on. If it does power on, the battery is charged.

How to Repair the AC Adapter on an HP Laptop

The AC adapter on your HP laptop is used to charge the laptop battery. It is important that you know how to troubleshoot problems with the AC adapter so it does not hinder your everyday computing. If you are experiencing problems with the device, there are several ways to troubleshoot the issue before you decide it is time to replace the AC power adapter with a new one.
Instructions
1 Connect the hp laptop ac adapter to the power port of your laptop and plug the other end into a working power outlet. Turn on your laptop. Notice the battery icon in your "system tray," in the lower right corner of your desktop. If the icon has the appearance of a power cord, the AC adapter is working properly and no further troubleshooting is required. If the battery icon resembles a battery, the battery is not charging. Go on to the next step.
2 Turn off the laptop and wait for it to shut down. Disconnect the hp mini 210 adapter from the laptop and the power outlet. Open the battery cover on the laptop and remove the battery from its compartment. Reconnect the AC adapter to the power port on your laptop and plug the other end into a working power outlet. Press the power button on the laptop and see if the laptop starts normally. If it does not start, the AC adapter is malfunctioning. If it does start, the problem may be with the laptop battery and not the adapter.
3 Replace the power cord on the AC adapter with another power cord, if you have one. Reconnect the hp 496813-001 charger to the laptop and see if it is working with the new power cord. If it is working, there was a problem with the power cord. If it is not working, the AC adapter needs to be replaced.
Tips & Warnings
It is not unusual for the ac adapter for hp mini 1000 to feel rather warm to the touch, especially after it has been in use for several hours.
Using an AC power adapter that is not compatible with your laptop can damage the battery. For example, if you are using a hp laptop power adapter that does not have enough voltage to run the laptop, or if it passes too much current for a small laptop, an error message may appear on your screen. Although an incompatible adapter may work with your computer, continuing to use it may damage your laptop

How to Check Laptop Battery Life

One of the worst things that can happen while working on a laptop is to have your battery die while you are in the middle of an important project. To avoid this, it's good to know how much life your laptop battery has left in it. Most laptop computers offer a couple of ways to do this, and there are several free downloads that will put a large battery-life monitor on your screen, meaning you'll never be caught with a dead battery unexpectedly again.
1.Look in your computer's system tray, which is at the right side of your taskbar near the clock. You should see a hp laptop battery icon. If it doesn't show up automatically, click the arrow on the left side of the system tray, which will expand the tray and show all icons.
2.Place your mouse over the battery icon, but don't click on it. The icon will show roughly how much life is in the battery.
3.Hovering your mouse over it will pop up a label showing exactly how much time remains before you run out of power and what percentage of the replacement laptop battery remains charged.
4.Plug in your hp laptop ac adapter if the battery needs to be charged. The status in the system tray will show that the computer is now running on AC power, and the battery is charging.
Tips & Warnings
Many sources recommend letting a battery fully drain, so as not to shorten its "memory." However with Lithium-ion batteries, the most common type of battery in modern laptops, this is not the case.

Your Sony VGP-BPS30 Laptop Battery Needs to Be Replaced

There is a not so well-kept secret about laptop batteries: they just don’t last very long. Most lithium ion batteries, like those found in laptops, suffer a roughly 20-percent drop in capacity after just 250 cycles, according to Cadex Electronics, a manufacturer of battery testing equipment. Cycles are the discharge and recharge pattern every battery goes through in normal use. There are some tell-tale signs your sony laptop battery is failing, and your computer has a few tricks to help you determine whether your battery is truly dying.
Instructions
1.Right-click on the vgp-bps30 battery icon in the taskbar. Usually it is located near the clock in the lower right-hand corner. If there is a “Properties” option, select it. If not, go to “Start” then “Control Panel.” Select “Power Options.” If your hardware manufacturer has included a battery health utility (both HP and Dell do on some models), you’ll see an option to check the battery health in the window.
2.Check the battery health through the BIOS if you don’t have the required utility. Restart your computer, and click the key that launches the BIOS setup as soon as you see the laptop manufacturer’s logo. Usually, F12 initiates the BIOS setup, but it does vary from maker to maker. You should see a cue in the upper right-hand corner of the screen telling you which key to press.
Navigate to “Battery” or “Power Sources” in the left information pane of the BIOS setup by using the up and down arrows. The exact wording varies by manufacturer. When you land on the correct entry, you should see the sony vgp-bps30 laptop battery status indicating the battery’s health.
4 After powering off, remove the battery from the laptop and press the indicator button located near a series of small LED lights if you are uncomfortable poking around in the BIOS screen. To eject your Sony SVT13117ECS battery, look for a release lever on the bottom or side of your machine. When you press and hold the test button, if you see any colors other than green or if lights are flashing, you likely have a battery problem.
5 Note the exact color and behavior of the indicator lights. Check with your manufacturer to determine the status of your battery if it is not clearly marked on the unit.
6 Plug in your laptop without the sony svt-13 battery in its slot, and try to power up. If you are able to run the laptop directly from the AC power adapter, any power issues you are having are almost certainly due to a failing battery. If you cannot power up the machine with the AC adapter only, you may be looking at a problem in the power connection board or even in the motherboard itself.

Change Your Dell Laptop Battery

The wonderful thing about laptops is their mobility. Without a working battery, however, a laptop becomes nothing more than a small desktop computer. Over time, laptop batteries start to lose their charge more quickly. As a result, the laptop user must stay close to electrical outlets at all times. Fortunately, replacing a laptop battery is quick and easy.
1.Purchase a new battery. Refer to your laptop owner’s manual to determine the type of Dell P11F battery you need. Compatible laptop batteries can be purchased from computer parts dealers, the laptop manufacturer, or an online auction.
2.Turn your laptop over and locate the dell p09e laptop battery compartment. Release the lock/latch and slide out the old battery. Refer to your owner’s manual if necessary.
3.Install the new battery by first aligning its receptor pins with the pins in the battery compartment. Push down on the opposite end to snap the battery in place. Secure the lock/latch mechanism by sliding it back to the original position.
4.Plug your laptop into an electrical outlet to charge the new dell laptop battery. It usually takes about 24 hours to complete the first charge. Subsequent charges will only take a few hours.
Tips & Warnings
For even more computing freedom, buy two laptop batteries so you always have an extra energy source ready to go.
Allow a fully charged battery to run down significantly before you plug in the laptop. Allowing some laptop batteries to discharge only partially can shorten their lifespan. Refer to your owner’s manual for more information about your particular laptop battery requirements.
