Compaq Presario CQ60 Charging Problem

So, a while back my mom's laptop stopped charging and even today will not charge. It is a decent laptop that functions fine that I wouldn't mind having around as another computer at my disposal. It is a Compaq Presario CQ60 Laptop by HP. I don't have any cash I can put into fixing it and the laptop battery is dead, but we have the compaq battery charger and everything it needs to function. I was just wondering if anybody knew of an easy, reliable way to get it to charge without getting work done on it.
