Dell XPS 15 battery or charger issue?

Question:”I think my Dell XPS 15 have a problem in it’s battery. What happens before was whenever I use it for 15mins the battery meter shows not charging. When I unplug and re-plug the adapter it shows battery charging on the dell xps 15 laptop battery meter but for just few seconds.
Right now I think my problem just got worse. It doesn’t even take 15mins for my laptop to be on that non charging stage. The blue light quickly turns off when I try to connect it to the laptop…
I know that Ill be replacing either my batter or dell laptop AC adapter. I just want to make sure which should I replace”
Answer:”Laptop battery problems are quite common among owners of all brands of notebooks. On average, laptop batteries last one to three years. Their exact lifespan depends on several factors, such as how much you use the batteries, the number of charge-discharge cycles and the quality of the batteries. Lithium-ion batteries begin to lose the ability to hold a charge over time. Before you replace a laptop battery, consider that there may be other reasons that the laptop is not working properly. You may be able to recharge the battery instead.
Instructions
1.Determine if the laptop battery is defective. While less than 1 percent of batteries are defective, the possibility is still there. If the battery is new and only charges some of the way, it may just require a BIOS update to charge fully. New batteries that refuse to charge at all may be defective. Purchase a new laptop battery to replace the defective one.
2.Test the laptop power adapter to see if it’s faulty. Run the laptop directly from the laptop power adapter and without the battery. If the laptop does not work with the adapter plugged in, the adapter is dead and you will need to replace it. The dell xps 15 battery may refuse to charge if the adapter is faulty. Charge the battery with the laptop turned off.
3.Insert the xps l502x battery into another laptop to test it. If the dell laptop battery charges in another laptop, the laptop’s motherboard may be bad. Replacing a motherboard in a computer can be very expensive. If the cost to fix the computer is not worth the cost of replacing the motherboard, consider purchasing a new laptop.
4.Reinstall the battery for dell xps l702x to ensure all connectors latch properly. The latch mechanism that holds the laptop battery should click into place. If the latch does not close, remove the battery and examine the compartment for signs of damage.
5.Troubleshoot the BIOS to determine if there is a hardware problem. Turn on the laptop and immediately enter BIOS setup by holding down the “Del” and “F1″ or “F2″ keys, depending on the make and model of the laptop. When the BIOS screen appears, see how long it takes for the battery to charge down. If the battery does not last as long as the BIOS setup, a hardware failure may be the problem.”

How to Choose Laptop AC Adapter for Your Laptop

laptop-battery-store.ca
Whether you need a replacement dell laptop power adapter for your laptop because the original was damaged or lost, choosing a new one isn't that hard--in fact, you don't even have to reference the old power adapter when selecting a new one. Choosing a new laptop adapter is simply about compatibility. And finding your laptop a new partner is all about making sure that their power rating matches.
Instructions
1 Check the laptop's model number. Use the search engine on a compaq presario cq61 charger vendor's website to search for a compatible power adapter by your laptop's model number (see Resources).
2 Locate the power specifications of your laptop--usually printed on the bottom or near the laptop's power port. Locate the amperage (AMPs) and voltage (V) rating of your laptop on the power specifications list.
3 Match your laptop's power rating with that of the aftermarket Dell XPS 15 L502 adapter. The voltage of the power adapter must match the voltage of the aftermarket adapter. The amp rating of the aftermarket adapter must meet or exceed the requirements of your laptop.
4 Select a power adapter for compaq presario cq61 tip from the aftermarket power adapter's kit. This fits firmly into your laptop's power port. The selected tip should not fit too loosely or need excessive force to fit the laptop's power port.
Tips & Warnings
If you have to pay the extra money for a universal kit as opposed to a replacement hp probook 4330s adapter, try selecting one with extras--like car adapters and European plug-ins. The cost may be a little more for the extras, but having to pay for two separate adapter kits as opposed to a bundled kit can be more expensive in the long run.
The power rating of your laptop and your adapter is the most important factor--they must be compatible. Selecting a power adapter solely on the basis of its fitting your laptop can lead to damage of both the laptop and the adapter.

My Dell Laptop Battery Won't Charge

When Dell laptop batteries won't charge, the most common culprits are a damaged power cord or a battery that needs to be replaced. The power cord provides power to the laptop and charges the battery, so if it's not working it will not charge the battery. Dell laptop batteries only have a life expectancy of 12 to 24 months, after which the battery loses efficiency or the ability to charge. When this happens, the battery needs to be replaced. Simple troubleshooting can pinpoint the cause of the problem.
1 Remove the Dell laptop battery. Ensure the laptop power is turned off and the laptop is unplugged from all additional power sources. Slide the battery release mechanism on the bottom of the Dell laptop while lifting the battery out of the battery bay at the same time.
2 Check the Dell 127VC battery for damage. Dents, dings, corrosion and mangled battery contacts can all cause the battery to work or charge improperly and can lead to laptop fires and internal damage. Damaged Dell batteries must be replaced.
3 Plug the dell power adapter into the Dell laptop outlet and an electrical outlet. Power the laptop on. Should the laptop fail to power on, the power adapter is incorrectly working and should be replaced. A laptop powered by the adapter indicates the power adapter is properly working. Power off the laptop and unplug the power adapter from the laptop.
4 Put the Dell battery back into the dell inspiron 14z laptop battery bay by pressing it into place. Re-insert the power adapter for eight hours so the battery charges.
5 Remove the power adapter. Power on the Dell laptop. Should the laptop fail to power on, the battery did not charge and should be replaced.

Toshiba Laptop Won't Charge With the Laptop Adapter

A power cord, or AC adapter, charges a Toshiba laptop battery and powers the laptop. If the battery is not charging while the laptop is plugged into the AC adapter, it is likely that you need to replace either the toshiba laptop ac adapter or the battery. You can easily test both to determine which is the cause of the problems. Once you have identified the cause, you need to replace the faulty part.
1.Power down the Toshiba laptop. Remove the charger for Toshiba PA3468E-1ACA and any other power sources.
2.Slide the battery release mechanism, located on the bottom of a Toshiba laptop, to the right. Continue holding the release mechanism in place while sliding the battery out of the battery bay.
3.Install the AC adapter into the outlet on the right side of the Toshiba laptop. Plug the PA3516C-1AC3 adapter into an electrical outlet that is working. Power on the laptop. This process troubleshoots the Toshiba PA3467E-1AC3 adapter. If the laptop turns on, the AC adapter is properly functioning. If it does not, replace the AC adapter. Once replaced, the new AC adapter should charge the battery. If it does not, continue troubleshooting the battery.
4.Turn the Toshiba laptop off. Remove the AC adapter.
5.Clean the Toshiba battery contacts by dipping a cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol. Rub the cotton swab on the battery and battery bay contacts to remove dust and buildup. While cleaning the contacts, inspect them. If you note corrosion, dings or dents on the battery, replace the battery. Do not use a damaged battery in a laptop as it can cause damage or start a fire.
6.Line up the Toshiba battery contacts with the laptop battery bay contacts. Push the battery downward until it snaps and locks into place.
7.Insert the AC adapter. Charge the battery for eight hours. During this time, do not turn on the laptop or remove the AC adapter.
8.Remove the AC adapter. Turn the Toshiba laptop on. Replace the battery with a Replacement Toshiba battery if the laptop does not turn on. If it does power on, the battery is charged.

How to Repair the AC Adapter on an HP Laptop

The AC adapter on your HP laptop is used to charge the laptop battery. It is important that you know how to troubleshoot problems with the AC adapter so it does not hinder your everyday computing. If you are experiencing problems with the device, there are several ways to troubleshoot the issue before you decide it is time to replace the AC power adapter with a new one.
Instructions
1 Connect the hp laptop ac adapter to the power port of your laptop and plug the other end into a working power outlet. Turn on your laptop. Notice the battery icon in your "system tray," in the lower right corner of your desktop. If the icon has the appearance of a power cord, the AC adapter is working properly and no further troubleshooting is required. If the battery icon resembles a battery, the battery is not charging. Go on to the next step.
2 Turn off the laptop and wait for it to shut down. Disconnect the hp mini 210 adapter from the laptop and the power outlet. Open the battery cover on the laptop and remove the battery from its compartment. Reconnect the AC adapter to the power port on your laptop and plug the other end into a working power outlet. Press the power button on the laptop and see if the laptop starts normally. If it does not start, the AC adapter is malfunctioning. If it does start, the problem may be with the laptop battery and not the adapter.
3 Replace the power cord on the AC adapter with another power cord, if you have one. Reconnect the hp 496813-001 charger to the laptop and see if it is working with the new power cord. If it is working, there was a problem with the power cord. If it is not working, the AC adapter needs to be replaced.
Tips & Warnings
It is not unusual for the ac adapter for hp mini 1000 to feel rather warm to the touch, especially after it has been in use for several hours.
Using an AC power adapter that is not compatible with your laptop can damage the battery. For example, if you are using a hp laptop power adapter that does not have enough voltage to run the laptop, or if it passes too much current for a small laptop, an error message may appear on your screen. Although an incompatible adapter may work with your computer, continuing to use it may damage your laptop

How to Check Laptop Battery Life

One of the worst things that can happen while working on a laptop is to have your battery die while you are in the middle of an important project. To avoid this, it's good to know how much life your laptop battery has left in it. Most laptop computers offer a couple of ways to do this, and there are several free downloads that will put a large battery-life monitor on your screen, meaning you'll never be caught with a dead battery unexpectedly again.
1.Look in your computer's system tray, which is at the right side of your taskbar near the clock. You should see a hp laptop battery icon. If it doesn't show up automatically, click the arrow on the left side of the system tray, which will expand the tray and show all icons.
2.Place your mouse over the battery icon, but don't click on it. The icon will show roughly how much life is in the battery.
3.Hovering your mouse over it will pop up a label showing exactly how much time remains before you run out of power and what percentage of the replacement laptop battery remains charged.
4.Plug in your hp laptop ac adapter if the battery needs to be charged. The status in the system tray will show that the computer is now running on AC power, and the battery is charging.
Tips & Warnings
Many sources recommend letting a battery fully drain, so as not to shorten its "memory." However with Lithium-ion batteries, the most common type of battery in modern laptops, this is not the case.

Your Sony VGP-BPS30 Laptop Battery Needs to Be Replaced

There is a not so well-kept secret about laptop batteries: they just don’t last very long. Most lithium ion batteries, like those found in laptops, suffer a roughly 20-percent drop in capacity after just 250 cycles, according to Cadex Electronics, a manufacturer of battery testing equipment. Cycles are the discharge and recharge pattern every battery goes through in normal use. There are some tell-tale signs your sony laptop battery is failing, and your computer has a few tricks to help you determine whether your battery is truly dying.
Instructions
1.Right-click on the vgp-bps30 battery icon in the taskbar. Usually it is located near the clock in the lower right-hand corner. If there is a “Properties” option, select it. If not, go to “Start” then “Control Panel.” Select “Power Options.” If your hardware manufacturer has included a battery health utility (both HP and Dell do on some models), you’ll see an option to check the battery health in the window.
2.Check the battery health through the BIOS if you don’t have the required utility. Restart your computer, and click the key that launches the BIOS setup as soon as you see the laptop manufacturer’s logo. Usually, F12 initiates the BIOS setup, but it does vary from maker to maker. You should see a cue in the upper right-hand corner of the screen telling you which key to press.
Navigate to “Battery” or “Power Sources” in the left information pane of the BIOS setup by using the up and down arrows. The exact wording varies by manufacturer. When you land on the correct entry, you should see the sony vgp-bps30 laptop battery status indicating the battery’s health.
4 After powering off, remove the battery from the laptop and press the indicator button located near a series of small LED lights if you are uncomfortable poking around in the BIOS screen. To eject your Sony SVT13117ECS battery, look for a release lever on the bottom or side of your machine. When you press and hold the test button, if you see any colors other than green or if lights are flashing, you likely have a battery problem.
5 Note the exact color and behavior of the indicator lights. Check with your manufacturer to determine the status of your battery if it is not clearly marked on the unit.
6 Plug in your laptop without the sony svt-13 battery in its slot, and try to power up. If you are able to run the laptop directly from the AC power adapter, any power issues you are having are almost certainly due to a failing battery. If you cannot power up the machine with the AC adapter only, you may be looking at a problem in the power connection board or even in the motherboard itself.

Change Your Dell Laptop Battery

The wonderful thing about laptops is their mobility. Without a working battery, however, a laptop becomes nothing more than a small desktop computer. Over time, laptop batteries start to lose their charge more quickly. As a result, the laptop user must stay close to electrical outlets at all times. Fortunately, replacing a laptop battery is quick and easy.
1.Purchase a new battery. Refer to your laptop owner’s manual to determine the type of Dell P11F battery you need. Compatible laptop batteries can be purchased from computer parts dealers, the laptop manufacturer, or an online auction.
2.Turn your laptop over and locate the dell p09e laptop battery compartment. Release the lock/latch and slide out the old battery. Refer to your owner’s manual if necessary.
3.Install the new battery by first aligning its receptor pins with the pins in the battery compartment. Push down on the opposite end to snap the battery in place. Secure the lock/latch mechanism by sliding it back to the original position.
4.Plug your laptop into an electrical outlet to charge the new dell laptop battery. It usually takes about 24 hours to complete the first charge. Subsequent charges will only take a few hours.
Tips & Warnings
For even more computing freedom, buy two laptop batteries so you always have an extra energy source ready to go.
Allow a fully charged battery to run down significantly before you plug in the laptop. Allowing some laptop batteries to discharge only partially can shorten their lifespan. Refer to your owner’s manual for more information about your particular laptop battery requirements.
