How to Repair the AC Adapter on an HP Laptop

The AC adapter on your HP laptop is used to charge the laptop battery. It is important that you know how to troubleshoot problems with the AC adapter so it does not hinder your everyday computing. If you are experiencing problems with the device, there are several ways to troubleshoot the issue before you decide it is time to replace the AC power adapter with a new one.
Instructions
1 Connect the hp laptop ac adapter to the power port of your laptop and plug the other end into a working power outlet. Turn on your laptop. Notice the battery icon in your "system tray," in the lower right corner of your desktop. If the icon has the appearance of a power cord, the AC adapter is working properly and no further troubleshooting is required. If the battery icon resembles a battery, the battery is not charging. Go on to the next step.
2 Turn off the laptop and wait for it to shut down. Disconnect the hp mini 210 adapter from the laptop and the power outlet. Open the battery cover on the laptop and remove the battery from its compartment. Reconnect the AC adapter to the power port on your laptop and plug the other end into a working power outlet. Press the power button on the laptop and see if the laptop starts normally. If it does not start, the AC adapter is malfunctioning. If it does start, the problem may be with the laptop battery and not the adapter.
3 Replace the power cord on the AC adapter with another power cord, if you have one. Reconnect the hp 496813-001 charger to the laptop and see if it is working with the new power cord. If it is working, there was a problem with the power cord. If it is not working, the AC adapter needs to be replaced.
Tips & Warnings
It is not unusual for the ac adapter for hp mini 1000 to feel rather warm to the touch, especially after it has been in use for several hours.
Using an AC power adapter that is not compatible with your laptop can damage the battery. For example, if you are using a hp laptop power adapter that does not have enough voltage to run the laptop, or if it passes too much current for a small laptop, an error message may appear on your screen. Although an incompatible adapter may work with your computer, continuing to use it may damage your laptop
