Dell AC Laptop Adapters Can not Work With HP Laptops

Answer: As long as the Voltage is very close to that of the HP Laptop, then the chances are there. Go through this checklist and if all answers are yes, then go ahead :-) Is voltage within 3% up or 5% down? Is the polarity of the plug the same? (ie + in the middle and - outside) Is its capacity (marked ampere) within 20% down and 50% or more up? Are you sure you understand the above questions and how to figure out their answers?
More information that might be of interest regarding this issue: Laptops are not normally dependent on a special dell laptop power-supply made by the manufacturer of that particular brand or make. There are some HP laptops with a special connector with 3 wires. They do not accept a power-supply with only 2 wires, at least not without some modifications. The absolute number one most important factor is the voltage it gives out. Too high a voltage can seriously damage your laptop beyond repair. A voltage that is too low on the other hand may allow you to run the computer but it might not charge the battery. If the chosen power-supply has got too little "juice" in it (Ampere), then it will simply cut off power due to being overloaded. This should not harm the computer.
Such a laptop ac adapter can still in most cases run the laptop. Just let it charge the battery first. When battery is fully charged, then switch computer on. A laptop charging the battery whilst being on can easily draw 90 watt, where as when it does not charge the battery it will only draw between 30 and 50 watt depending on model. Captive Market When you buy a product that uses proprietary hardware, you then become part of a "captive market." A captive market is a group of buyers who cannot shop elsewhere. This then allows the companies involved to engage in rent-seeking behavior and generate greater profits. HP's Reasons By limiting your options only to sanctioned HP power adapters, HP can then charge more for its adapters, since you have no alternative products. Dell's Reasons Dell is pulling the same trick, since if you are in possession of Dell accessories you are then more likely to buy a Dell computer. In addition they do not want to help any competitor, since a computer without power is no good. Thus you are more likely to buy a replacement computer, which hopefully will be a Dell according to their reasoning.

dell laptop ac adapter not recognized

started receiving the dreaded error message "The Laptop AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation"
The laptop runs fine on AC power but doesn't charge the battery. I have tried the following after reading others with similar problems:
1) Disconnect AC
2) Shutdown
3) Remove battery
4) Connect AC Adapter
5) Startup
6) Under the Batteries category (in Device Manager), right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall. Do this for each instance (I had 2 batteries installed, so 2 instances. Most users will only have 1).
7) Shutdown
8) Disconnect AC
9) Insert battery
10) Connect AC
11) Startup
This did not work then I found this question that was the same problem (different model) and it most likely was a hardware issue since the message appears when booting up.
Worldwide failure pattern
A deeper dig into search engine results reveals a wide spread pattern. The problem seems quite common and most of the resolutions point towards replacement of the dell AC power adapter.

A few resolutions to this problem found while surfing:
- Call DELL - explain the problem, insist on a free DELL AC power adapter.
- Power-down, remove battery, hold down the On/Off button for more than 10 seconds.
- Check the power leads - specially coming out of the dell 9T215 adapter, fix if possible.
- Slowly turn the plug into the jack at the back of the laptop, see if it charges again
- Power-on, after the BIOS message, unplug jack, press F1 and immediately replug jack
- Update the BIOS (use with caution - power failure during BIOS update is fatal
None of them worked in this case.
The reason why someone would recieve this error is because the dell 9t215 is no longer able to provide 65w for the laptop. Do NOT listen to the other answerer and just use any voltage you want. Its like just trying to plug in random things and the very likely result at the end is a fried motherboard.
Either the charger is no longer able to provide sufficient power (65w) or the Chip inside the charger is damaged.
Dell laptops are the only ones that recieve this error because each Dell product has a chip located inside to notify it is a Dell C2894 charger or laptop that it is being connected to. If the chip is damaged, it won't verify it as such and will give you an error.

You simply need to replace the charger and you will be as good as new.
You can look online for a new charger but I would personally suggest you visit laptopadaptershop.com.au instead. all products has 1-year warranty and 60-day money back

Dell Laptop Battery not detected

My laptop says no battery is detected?
i have a dell and today my laptop just shut down by it self. i plugged in the charger but again it shut down few minutes later. i turned it on once more and i saw by the battery life thing a red x on it. i clicked on it and it says no battery is detected.please help to fix this
Answer:"I suggest that you shut the system down, remove the battery and disconnect the laptop ac adapter, press and hold the power button for 20 to 30 seconds. Now connect only the ac adapter and wait for 30 seconds and turn on the system. This will drain any residual charge in the capacitors.
Please check if the original dell Ac adapter and battery works fine on another computer. Also check if the dell pa-21 charger and battery is detected in the BIOS. To go to BIOS, restart the system and at Dell logo tap the F2 key every two seconds. Under the option General navigate to Battery information and highlight it. To the right side the battery and Ac adapter information will be listed. Check the status of Ac adapter and battery and reply with the findings.
I recommend you to flash BIOS from the link given below:
http://dell.to/1ario9m
Note: While flashing BIOS connect the dell LA45NM121 adapter and make sure the battery has minimum 15% charge as this needs uninterrupted power supply. Do not use the system till it restarts and comes up to the desktop.
Let me know the status after the BIOS update. Also check if the system turns on only with the battery and without the battery."
